With more film awards than any other Indian actor, a career spanning almost 40 years and over 100 film credited to his name, Amitabh Bachchan is one of the most legendary figures in the history of Indian cinema. The star of the millenium Bachchan returned to Bollywood with a vengeance, bringing his total Filmfare Best Actor awards to 12 and the coveted National Film Awards to three.
And since Hong Kong is becoming an increasingly popular destination for Indian tourists, there is a growing demand for us to feature Indian film stars. Bachchan's entry there tis part of an effort to enhance the guest experience for our Indian visitors.
The authorities there anticipate that Bachchan's wax figure will be incredibly popular with the Indian community both in Hong Kong and abroad, so we'll definitely explore a more permanent tribute to the Indian Film Industry here at Madame Tussauds Hong Kong in the future.
In this way, Madame Tussauds Hong Kong also created history as it introduced India's most prominent film star -- Amitabh Bachchan -- for the first time ever in Asia.
On loan for the next four months from Madame Tussauds London, Amitabh Bachchan will take his place at the "World Famous Home of the Famous" at The Peak alongside other movie stars such as Jackie Chan, Johnny Depp, and Angelina Jolie.
Amitabh Bachchan's wax figure will be on display at World Premiere section at Madame Tussauds Hong Kong until August 9, 2009.
